We Are Enough...November 4, 2021

"I exist as I am." Walt Whitman reminds us. Yup, true, my heart whispers. I am enough. You too.

We are enough.

This week I read about an accomplishment by someone with an amputation...with envy following in a snap...as a big dose of inadequacy thumped on my chest.

What have you been doing, Julie? Drinking coffee, reading books, napping like a cat sometimes. Yes, yes and yes.

I look at my new leg and recall my dislike of jogging and discipline...with a sigh. I have an ambivalent relationship with gait training...learning to walk again. A toddler without the heady confidence. It requires hard work to get out again...into our world, with two legs.

So I sat in that lump of something for a little while this week. Not long. For my days center on the idea, or game almost, that any movement forward is enough. To find one thing to do...to put on my leg and take 10 steps. That is enough. Gold star for me, yay!

Our pace is our own, and sometimes we must sit and rest for awhile. Let's speak kindly to ourselves...take one step today, or maybe tomorrow.

For we are enough. All of us, not a special few. Yes, enough and so much and that is all well and good.
